Sandra Bassendowski and Twyla Salm (University of Regina) will be presenting a paper at the Collaborating Across Borders III Conference in Tucson, Arizona on November 21, 2011. The topic of their paper is “Evaluating the Pedagogical Significance of an Inter-professional Instructional Strategy on Second Life.” Twyla will participate in the discussion through a Skype link. They have submitted a paper to a peer reviewed journal on the project that they conducted about the challenges of teaching in a virtual world.

Drs. Pammla Petrucka and Sandra Bassendowski will be going to the Caribbean from September 21-30, 2011 to meet with research partners. The meetings will focus on sustainability issues for the research project that introduced the use of hand-held devices and remote monitoring to the health care professionals on the islands of Dominican Republic, Dominica, St. Kitts/Nevus, and St. Lucia. Dr. Marlene Smadu, Associate Dean, College of Nursing will be going with Pam and Sandra to the meetings.

Dr. Pammla Petrucka (Principal Investigator) and the team of Co-Investigators (Sandra Bassendowski, Lois Berry, Carrie Bourassa, James Daschuk, Jo-Ann Episkenew, Paul Hackett, Vivian Ramsden, George Smadu) were successful on their recent CIHR operating grant proposal. The researchers have been funded via the Priority Announcement: Aboriginal Mental Health and/ or Addictions Research one year funding ($60,982) for the project entitled “PL3A3Y – Positive Leadership, Legacy, Lifestyle, Attitudes, & Activities for Aboriginal Youth”.
Drs. Sandra Bassendowski and Twyla Salm (University of Regina) received notice that the abstract they submitted, Evaluating the Pedagogical Significance of an Inter-professional Instructional Strategy on Second Life, was accepted for the Collaborating Across Borders III Conference in Tucson in November 2011 as a Discussion presentation. The abstract committee received over 400 abstracts from 10 countries.
The digital communication field of study is continuously expanding as technology continues to advance leading to more complex and higher performing communication systems transmitting data, voice and multimedia information. Drs. Pammla Petrucka and Sandra Bassendowski had an abstract accepted for a chapter in the book Digital Communications. The topic for their chapter is titled "Using the “Push-Pull” Theory to Support the Co-creation of Course Content".
Dr. Sandra Bassendowski is currently working on publishing another volume to her Traditions and Transitions: A Photographic History of Nursing in Saskatchewan. Expected to be released in the fall of 2011, volume II will be focused on the role of Saskatchewan Nurses during World Wars I and II. It contains both narratives and photographs that have been submitted by the relatives of these nurses and in some cases by the nurses themselves. Dr. Sandra Bassendowski and her team are working hard to get this piece of history out to the public!
