The Nelson Mandela African Institute for Science and Technology (NM-AIST) is currently launching graduate programs for East African
and Sub-Saharan scholars. The institute is located in Arusha, Tanzania and will have its inaugural student intake in September 2011. The two core departments that will be offering programs
at this time will be the Life Sciences and the Computational Sciences programs. At this time the NM-AIST has approximately 80 faculty and staff to meet the needs of the 90 anticipated students from the region. The organization's motto is "Academia for Society and Industry".

In August 2011, a University of Saskatchewan team including representation from the College of Arts and Science, College of Nursing (Dr. Petrucka) and International Office visited the NM-AIST with the intention of exploring a relationship for faculty and student mobility, interactions and co-research efforts, as well as capacity building bilaterally. During this visit a number of potential research and development projects were discussed and allegiances were formulated related to future planning and partnering.
Our hope is to work together for local and global connections in the upcoming year of 2012. Keep posted for new developments.
